The Gaia-ESO Public Spectroscopic Survey

Gerry Gilmore, +274 more
- 01 Mar 2012 -
TL;DR: The Gaia-ESO Public Spectroscopic Survey has begun and will obtain high quality spectroscopy of some 100000 Milky Way stars, in the field and in open clusters, down to magnitude 19, systematically.
Journal ArticleDOI

An extremely primitive star in the Galactic halo

TL;DR: It is shown that low-mass stars can be formed at very low metallicity, that is, below the critical value of Z, which implies that the stellar material must have experienced temperatures above two million kelvin in its history, given that this is necessary to destroy lithium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Outer structure of the Galactic warp and flare: explaining the Canis Major over-density

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived the structure of the Galactic stellar warp and flare and showed that the stellar warp starts already within the solar circle, and the derived stellar warp is consistent with that for the Galactic interstellar dust and neutral atomic hydrogen.
Journal ArticleDOI

The exotic chemical composition of the sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy

TL;DR: In this article, the detailed chemical composition of 12 giant stars in the Sagittarius dwarf Spheroidal main body, together with 5 more in the associated globular cluster Terzan 7, by means of high resolution VLT-UVES spectra was studied.
