Histone deacetylase inhibitor activity in royal jelly might facilitate caste switching in bees
Astrid Spannhoff,Yong Kee Kim,Noël J.-M. Raynal,Vazganush Gharibyan,Ming Bo Su,Yueyang Zhou,Jia Li,Sabrina Castellano,Gianluca Sbardella,Jean Pierre J. Issa,Mark T. Bedford +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown that royal jelly—the secretion produced by the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of worker bees—has histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi) activity, and that the epigenetic regulation of queen‐bee development is probably driven, in part, by HDACi activity in royal jelly.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small-molecule inhibitors of histone acetyltransferase activity: identification and biological properties.
Antonello Mai,Dante Rotili,Domenico Tarantino,Prisca Ornaghi,Federica Tosi,Caterina Vicidomini,Gianluca Sbardella,Angela Nebbioso,Marco Miceli,Lucia Altucci,Patrizia Filetici +10 more
TL;DR: Starting from a yeast phenotypic screening performed on 21 compounds, the identification of two small molecules able to significantly reduce the S. cerevisiae cell growth, thus miming the effect of GCN5 deletion mutant is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arginine Demethylation of G3BP1 Promotes Stress Granule Assembly
Wei-Chih Tsai,Sitaram Gayatri,Lucas C. Reineke,Gianluca Sbardella,Mark T. Bedford,Richard E. Lloyd +5 more
TL;DR: Examination of the potent SG-nucleating protein Ras-GAP SH3-binding protein 1 (G3BP1) is examined, and it is found that arginine methylation in the RGG domain prevents large SG assembly and rapid demethylation is a novel signal that regulates SG formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and Biochemical Evaluation of Δ2-Isoxazoline Derivatives as DNA Methyltransferase 1 Inhibitors
Sabrina Castellano,Dirk Kuck,Monica Viviano,Jakyung Yoo,Fabian López-Vallejo,Paola Conti,Lucia Tamborini,Andrea Pinto,José L. Medina-Franco,Gianluca Sbardella +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Δ2-isoxazoline constrained analogues of procaine/procainamide (7a-k and 8a−k) were tested and their inhibitory activity against DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) was tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
epigenetic multiple ligands: mixed histone/protein methyltransferase, acetyltransferase, and class III deacetylase (sirtuin) inhibitors.
Antonello Mai,Donghang Cheng,Mark T. Bedford,Sergio Valente,Angela Nebbioso,Andrea Perrone,Gerald Brosch,Gianluca Sbardella,Floriana De Bellis,Marco Miceli,Lucia Altucci +10 more
TL;DR: The epi-MLs induced high apoptosis levels and/or massive, dose-dependent cytodifferentiation when tested on the human leukemia U937 cell line, whereas the single-target inhibitors eosin, curcumin, and sirtinol were ineffective or showed a weak effect.
