Journal ArticleDOI
Normal tissue reactions to radiotherapy: towards tailoring treatment dose by genotype.
Gillian C. Barnett,Catherine M West,Alison M. Dunning,Rebecca Elliott,Charlotte E. Coles,Paul D.P. Pharoah,Neil G. Burnet +6 more
TL;DR: There is interest in developing a test to measure an individual's radiosensitivity before treatment, and recent progress in genotyping raises the possibility of genome-wide studies to characterize genetic profiles that predict patient response to radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Partial-breast radiotherapy after breast conservation surgery for patients with early breast cancer (UK IMPORT LOW trial): 5-year results from a multicentre, randomised, controlled, phase 3, non-inferiority trial
Charlotte E. Coles,Clare Griffin,Anna M. Kirby,Jenny Titley,R.K. Agrawal,Abdulla Alhasso,I.S. Bhattacharya,A.M. Brunt,Laura Ciurlionis,Charlie Chan,Ellen M. Donovan,M. Emson,Adrian Harnett,Joanne S Haviland,Penelope Hopwood,Monica L Jefford,Ronald Kaggwa,Elinor J. Sawyer,Isabel Syndikus,Y. Tsang,Duncan Wheatley,Maggie Wilcox,John Yarnold,Judith M Bliss,Wail Al Sarakbi,Sarah Barber,Gillian C. Barnett,Peter Bliss,John Dewar,David J. Eaton,S. Ebbs,Ian O. Ellis,Philip M. Evans,Emma J. Harris,Hayley James,Cliona C. Kirwan,Julie Kirk,Helen Mayles,Anne McIntyre,J. Mills,A. Poynter,Elena Provenzano,Christine Rawlings,Mark Sculpher,Georges Sumo,M. Sydenham,Andrew Tutt,N. Twyman,K Venables,Anna Winship,John Winstanley,Gordon C. Wishart,Alastair M. Thompson +52 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesised that partial-breast radiotherapy restricted to the vicinity of the original tumour in women at lower than average risk of local relapse will improve the balance of beneficial versus adverse effects compared with whole-breasts radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Independent validation of genes and polymorphisms reported to be associated with radiation toxicity: a prospective analysis study.
Gillian C. Barnett,Gillian C. Barnett,Charlotte E. Coles,Rebecca Elliott,Caroline Baynes,Craig Luccarini,Don M. Conroy,Jennifer S. Wilkinson,Jonathan Tyrer,Vivek Misra,Radka Platte,Sarah L. Gulliford,Matthew R. Sydes,Emma Hall,Søren M. Bentzen,David P. Dearnaley,Neil G. Burnet,Paul D.P. Pharoah,Alison M. Dunning,Catharine M L West +19 more
TL;DR: This prospective study validated reported associations between genotype and radiation toxicity in a large independent dataset and did not replicate previously reported late toxicity associations, suggesting that the hypothesis that published SNPs individually exert a clinically relevant effect is essentially excluded.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized Controlled Trial of Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy for Early Breast Cancer: 5-Year Results Confirm Superior Overall Cosmesis
M.B. Mukesh,Gillian C. Barnett,Jennifer S. Wilkinson,A.M. Moody,Charles Wilson,Leila Dorling,Charleen Chan Wah Hak,W. Qian,N. Twyman,Neil G. Burnet,Gordon C. Wishart,Charlotte E. Coles +11 more
TL;DR: Improved dose homogeneity with simple IMRT translates into superior overall cosmesis and reduces the risk of skin telangiectasia, and should encourage centers still using two-dimensional RT to implement simple breast IMRT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors for the Incidence of Breast Cancer: Do They Affect Survival From the Disease?
Gillian C. Barnett,Mitul Shah,Karen Redman,Douglas F. Easton,Bruce A.J. Ponder,Paul D.P. Pharoah +5 more
TL;DR: The finding that an increase in BMI is associated with a poorer prognosis supports previously published data and suggests that advice on weight loss should be given to all obese patients with breast cancer.
