Transforming Growth Factor- β Expression in Mucosal Biopsies in Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis

TL;DR: A significant correlation was found between the number of epithelial or submucosal cells expressing TGF- β in both asthma and chronic bronchitis and basement membrane thickness and f...

Sputum Metalloproteinase-9/Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-1 Ratio Correlates with Airflow Obstruction in Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis

TL;DR: Airway inflammation in asthma and chronic bronchitis is associated with an imbalance between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 which may have a role in the pathogenesis of ECM remodeling and airflow obstruction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Airway Remodeling in Asthma

TL;DR: Airway remodeling appears to be of great importance for understanding the long-term follow-up of asthmatic patients, but there are major gaps in knowledge and Physiologic correlations with pathology represent a major missing link that should be filled.

Autonomic cardiac regulation in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: evidence from spontaneous baroreflex analysis during sleep

TL;DR: Evidence that spontaneous baroceptor reflex sensitivity is depressed in severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is provided, suggesting that in such patients baroreflex dysfunction and not only chemoreceptor stimulation by hypoxia may be involved in the sympathetic activation which occurs during sleep.
