TL;DR: A meta-analysis of existing literature on pressure/impact/knowledge gaps summarized in tables related to the MSFD descriptors allowed the identification of additional research themes targeting research topics that are requested to the achievement of GES.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in microbial food web structure in response to changed environmental trophic status: A case study of the Vranjic Basin (Adriatic Sea)
Mladen Šolić,Nada Krstulović,Grozdan Kušpilić,Z. Nincevicc Gladan,Natalia Bojanić,Stefanija Šestanović,Danijela Šantić,Marin Ordulj +7 more
TL;DR: The switch from eutrophic to oligotrophic conditions was accompanied by decreases in bacterial abundance, bacterial production and chlorophyll a, and increase in heterotrophic nanoflagellate (HNF) abundance and bacterial specific growth rate, and significant changes in the microbial food web were identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of water mass dynamics in controlling bacterial abundance and production in the middle Adriatic Sea.
Mladen Šolić,Nada Krstulović,Ivica Vilibić,Grozdan Kušpilić,Stefanija Šestanović,Danijela Šantić,Marin Ordulj +6 more
TL;DR: The analyses showed that bacterial abundance and production were controlled by different water mass dynamics during 1997-2001 compared to 2002-2006 period, particularly noticeable in different seasonal patterns of biological parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of prokaryotic picoplankton community in the central and southern Adriatic Sea (Croatia)
TL;DR: The results show the importance of both HNA and LNA bacterial groups in the total bacterial activity throughout the investigated area, while the biomass of bacteria was mostly predominant in the prokaryotic community, while within the autotrophic community Synechococcus biomass mostly predominated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Annual variability and trophic relations of the mesozooplankton community in the eutrophicated coastal area (Vranjic Basin, eastern Adriatic Sea)
Olja Vidjak,Natalia Bojanić,Grozdan Kušpilić,Ivona Marasović,Živana Ninčević Gladan,Igor Brautović +5 more
TL;DR: Significant correlation determined between Acartia clausi and oligotrich ciliates indicates predator–prey relationship and the importance of the ciliate community in the energy transfer through the trophic web of this area.
