Secondary metabolites of fungi from marine habitats.

Terpenes from marine-derived fungi show a pronounced degree of structural diversity, and due to their interesting biological and pharmacological properties many of them have aroused interest from synthetic chemists and the pharmaceutical industry alike. The aim of this paper is to give an overview of the structural diversity of terpenes from marine-derived fungi, highlighting individual examples of chemical structures and placing them in a context of other terpenes of fungal origin. Wherever possible, information regarding the biological activity is presented.

Terpenes from marine-derived fungi.

This work reviews the production of terpenoids by endophytic fungi and their biological activities, in period of 2006 to 2010. Sixty five sesquiterpenes, 45 diterpenes, five meroterpenes and 12 other terpenes, amounting to 127 terpenoids were isolated from endophytic fungi.

Crystal structure of (4-aminobenzoato-κ2O,O′)-[5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′]nickel(II) perchlorate monohydrate, C23H44ClN5NiO7

In the crystal structure of the title salt, [Ni(C3H3O4)(C16H36N4)]ClO4·CH3CN, the macrocycle folds around the NiII atom, which is also chelated by the carboxyl­ate monoanion. The geometry is a distorted NiN4O2 octa­hedron. The formula units are connected by N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into centrosymmetric dimers. Further N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the complex mol­ecules and the perchlorate ions.

(2-Carb-oxy-acetato-κO,O)(rac-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexa-methyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane-κN,N',N'',N''')nickel(II) perchlorate acetonitrile solvate.

In the title salt, [NaZn2(CH3COO)2(ClO4)2(C16H36N4)2]ClO4, the macrocyclic ligand binds to the Zn2+ cations through their four amino N atoms; the Zn2+ cations are also each covalently bonded to an acetate ion. For one zinc atom, the acetate group is monodentate, and the geometry is a distorted ZnN4O trigonal bipyramid; for the other, the acetate group is anisobidentate and the geometry is a distorted ZnN4O2 octa­hedron. The two macrocycle–zinc acetate units are bridged through a diperchloratosodium unit. In the crystal, the complex cations and uncoordinated perchlorate anions are linked by N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
