Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and risk factors for age-related macular degeneration in an adult Japanese population: the Funagata study.
Ryo Kawasaki,Ryo Kawasaki,Jie Jin Wang,Jie Jin Wang,Guijin Ji,B. Taylor,Toshihide Oizumi,Makoto Daimon,Takeo Kato,Sumio Kawata,Takamasa Kayama,Yasuo Tano,Paul Mitchell,Hidetoshi Yamashita,Tien Yin Wong,Tien Yin Wong +15 more
TL;DR: Although the late AMD prevalence was lower in Japanese women, in Japanese men it was similar to that in whites, and this could have resulted from the substantially high proportion of Japanese men who are smokers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large-scale search of single nucleotide polymorphisms for hepatocellular carcinoma susceptibility genes in patients with hepatitis C.
Naoya Kato,Guijin Ji,Yue Wang,Masanori Baba,Yujin Hoshida,Motoyuki Otsuka,Hiroyoshi Taniguchi,Masaru Moriyama,Narayan Dharel,Tadashi Goto,Run-Xuan Shao,Tadashi Matsuura,Keisuke Ishii,Shuichiro Shiina,Takao Kawabe,Masaaki Muramatsu,Masao Omata +16 more
TL;DR: SNPs and haplotypes located in the SCBY14, CRHR2, and GFRA1 genes will be used as markers to identify a subgroup of Japanese patients with chronic HCV infection who are at high risk of developing HCC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic variations in humans associated with differences in the course of hepatitis C.
Takafumi Saito,Guijin Ji,Haruhide Shinzawa,Kazuo Okumoto,Etsuko Hattori,Tohru Adachi,Tadashi Takeda,Kazuhiko Sugahara,Junitsu Ito,Hisayoshi Watanabe,Koji Saito,Hitoshi Togashi,Keisuke Ishii,Tadashi Matsuura,Kiyoshi Inageda,Masaaki Muramatsu,Sumio Kawata +16 more
TL;DR: The sorted genes allow us to draw novel hypotheses for future studies of HCV infection to ultimately identify bona fide genes and their variations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Transforming Growth Factor–β1 Functional Polymorphisms with Natural Clearance of Hepatitis C Virus
Tomomi Kimura,Takafumi Saito,Mika Yoshimura,Song Yixuan,Masanori Baba,Guijin Ji,Masaaki Muramatsu,Sumio Kawata +7 more
TL;DR: The -509CC genotype and the -509C allele were significantly associated with higher HCV clearance rates and with lower transcriptional activity, and the genetic effect remained significant even after adjustment for a history of transfusion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with aggressive periodontitis and severe chronic periodontitis in Japanese.
Asami Suzuki,Guijin Ji,Yukihiro Numabe,Masaaki Muramatsu,Kazuhiro Gomi,Mikimoto Kanazashi,Yorimasa Ogata,Emi Shimizu,Yoshihiro Shibukawa,Akiyo Ito,Taichi Ito,Akira Sugaya,Takashi Arai,Satoru Yamada,Shinji Deguchi,Kyuichi Kamoi +15 more
TL;DR: Analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms in multiple candidate genes revealed statistically significant SNPs in multiple genes, not only in inflammatory mediators but also in structural factors of periodontal tissues that appear to be good candidates as genetic factors for future study.
