Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of the activation of plasminogen by human tissue plasminogen activator. Role of fibrin.

TL;DR: The kinetic analysis suggested that the activation in the presence of fibrin occurs through binding of an activator molecule to the clot surface and subsequent addition of plasminogen (sequential ordered mechanism) to form a cyclic ternary complex.
Journal ArticleDOI

Basic and clinical aspects of fibrinolysis and thrombolysis.

TL;DR: Reduction of infarct size, preservation of ventricular function, and reduction in mortality has been obtained with SK, rt-PA, and APSAC, and thrombolytic therapy has become standard treatment for early acute myocardial infarction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmin and Matrix Metalloproteinases in Vascular Remodeling

TL;DR: The plasminogen/plasmin and MMP systems, in concert, contribute to vascular remodeling in the setting of cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

New insights into the molecular mechanisms of the fibrinolytic system.

TL;DR: This review includes novel proteins such a thrombin‐activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) and discusses new insights into molecular mechanisms obtained from the rapidly growing knowledge of crystal structures of proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pleiotropic functions of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1.

TL;DR: Studies with transgenic mice have revealed a functional role for PAI‐1 in wound healing, atherosclerosis, metabolic disturbances such as obesity and insulin resistance, tumor angiogenesis, chronic stress, bone remodeling, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, fibrosis, glomerulonephritis and sepsis.
