Dopamine-dependent changes in the functional connectivity between basal ganglia and cerebral cortex in humans

TL;DR: The basal ganglia may receive multiple cortical inputs at frequencies <30 Hz and, in the presence of dopaminergic activity, produce a high frequency drive back to the cerebral cortex, in particular the supplementary motor area (SMA).
Journal ArticleDOI

Expression of human immunodeficiency virus antigen (HIV-Ag) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid during acute and chronic infection.

TL;DR: Its persistence or reappearance seems to correlate with clinical, immunological, and neurological deterioration, and the findings suggest that HIV-Ag appears early and transiently in primary HIV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Declining incidence of AIDS dementia complex after introduction of zidovudine treatment.

TL;DR: The incidence of AIDS dementia complex in patients with AIDS declined after the introduction of systematic treatment with zidovudine; theAIDS dementia complex might be prevented by inhibiting viral replication in the central nervous system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Different Functional Loops between Cerebral Cortex and the Subthalmic Area in Parkinson's Disease

TL;DR: In this paper, the extent to which functional circuits coupling cortical and sub-thalamic activity are multiple and segregated by frequency in untreated Parkinson's disease (PD) was investigated, where EEG and local field potentials (LFPs) from macroelectrodes inserted into the subthalamic nucleus area (SA) in nine awake patients following functional neurosurgery for PD were studied after overnight withdrawal of medication.
