Angiotensin inhibition enhances drug delivery and potentiates chemotherapy by decompressing tumour blood vessels
Vikash P. Chauhan,John D. Martin,John D. Martin,Hao Liu,Delphine A. Lacorre,Saloni R. Jain,Saloni R. Jain,Sergey V. Kozin,Triantafyllos Stylianopoulos,Triantafyllos Stylianopoulos,Ahmed S. Mousa,Xiaoxing Han,Pichet Adstamongkonkul,Zoran B. Popović,Peigen Huang,Moungi G. Bawendi,Yves Boucher,Rakesh K. Jain +17 more
TL;DR: Losartan reduces solid stress in tumours resulting in increased vascular perfusion, thereby potentiating chemotherapy and reducing hypoxia in breast and pancreatic cancer models, suggesting that angiotensin inhibitors —inexpensive drugs with decades of safe use — could be rapidly repurposed as cancer therapeutics.
Angiotensin inhibition enhances drug delivery and potentiates chemotherapy by decompressing tumour blood vessels
Vikash P. Chauhan,Hao Liu,Delphine A. Lacorre,Saloni R. Jain,Sergey V. Kozin,Triantafyllos Stylianopoulos,Ahmed S. Mousa,Xiaoxing Han,Pichet Adstamongkonkul,Peigen Huang,Moungi G. Bawendi,Yves Boucher,Rakesh K. Jain,John D. Martin,Zoran B. Popović +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the angiotensin inhibitor losartan reduces stromal collagen and hyaluronan production, associated with decreased expression of profibrotic signals TGF-β1, CCN2 and ET-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity-induced inflammation and desmoplasia promote pancreatic cancer progression and resistance to chemotherapy
Joao Incio,Hao Liu,Priya Suboj,Shan M. Chin,Ivy X. Chen,Matthias Pinter,Mei Rosa Ng,Hadi Tavakoli Nia,Jelena Grahovac,Shannon Kao,Suboj Babykutty,Yuhui Huang,Keehoon Jung,Nuh N. Ferrone,Raquel Soares,Yves Boucher,Dai Fukumura,Rakesh K. Jain +26 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that cross-talk between adipocytes, TANs, and PSCs exacerbates desmoplasia and promotes tumor progression in obesity and that clinically available antifibrotic/inflammatory agents can improve the treatment response of PDAC in obese hosts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solid stress and elastic energy as measures of tumour mechanopathology
Hadi Tavakoli Nia,Hao Liu,Giorgio Seano,Meenal Datta,Meenal Datta,Dennis Jones,Nuh N. Rahbari,Joao Incio,Vikash P. Chauhan,Keehoon Jung,John D. Martin,Vasileios Askoxylakis,Timothy P. Padera,Dai Fukumura,Yves Boucher,Francis J. Hornicek,Alan J. Grodzinsky,James W. Baish,Lance L. Munn,Rakesh K. Jain +19 more
TL;DR: Two-dimensional spatial mappings of solid stress and the resulting elastic energy in excised or in situ tumours with arbitrary shapes and wide size ranges can be obtained via three distinct and quantitative techniques that rely on the measurement of tissue displacement after disruption of the confining structures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Artificial Solid-Electrolyte Interface Facilitating Dendrite-Free Zinc Metal Anodes via Nanowetting Effect.
Mingqiang Liu,Luyi Yang,Hao Liu,Anna Amine,Qinghe Zhao,Yongli Song,Jinlong Yang,Ke Wang,Feng Pan +8 more
TL;DR: An artificial composite protective layer consisting of nano-sized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to improve the poor wetting effect of aqueous electrolytes on Zn anode, is proposed to reconstruct the Zn/electrolyte interface to demonstrate an effective way to reconstruct a stable interface on metal anodes (e.g. Zn) where a conventional solid-electrolies interface (SEI) cannot be formed.
