Journal ArticleDOI

IQ-TREE: A fast and effective stochastic algorithm for estimating maximum likelihood phylogenies

TL;DR: It is shown that a combination of hill-climbing approaches and a stochastic perturbation method can be time-efficiently implemented and found higher likelihoods between 62.2% and 87.1% of the studied alignments, thus efficiently exploring the tree-space.
Journal ArticleDOI

TREE-PUZZLE: maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis using quartets and parallel computing.

TL;DR: TREE-PUZZLE is a program package for quartet-based maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis that provides methods for reconstruction, comparison, and testing of trees and models on DNA as well as protein sequences to reduce waiting time for larger datasets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unexpected complexity of the Wnt gene family in a sea anemone

TL;DR: The isolation of twelve Wnt genes from the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis, a species representing the basal group within cnidarians, indicates distinct roles of Wnts in gastrulation, resulting in serial overlapping expression domains along the primary axis of the planula larva.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple Wnts are involved in Hydra organizer formation and regeneration

TL;DR: Wnt genes and beta-catenin signaling are involved in axial patterning processes in vertebrate embryogenesis in setting up the Spemann-Mangold organizer in amphibian embryos.
