Crystal Structure and Hydrogen-Bonding System in Cellulose Iβ from Synchrotron X-ray and Neutron Fiber Diffraction

TL;DR: In this article, the crystal and molecular structure of cellulose Iβ were determined using synchrotron and neutron diffraction data recorded from oriented fibrous samples prepared by aligning cellulose microcrystals from tunicin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electron diffraction study on the two crystalline phases occurring in native cellulose from an algal cell wall

TL;DR: The green alga Microdictyon tenuius exhibits two distinct crystalline phases: the major phase has a one-chain, triclinic (P1) structure with unit cell parameters of a=0.674 nm, b= 0.593 nm, c (chain axis)=1.036 nm, α=117°, β=113°, and γ=81° as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cellulose, cellulases and cellulosomes

TL;DR: A combination of molecular genetic, biochemical, chemical, crystallographic and microscopic techniques are paving the way for new insights into both the structure of cellulose and the mechanisms of its hydrolysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

The double-helical nature of the crystalline part of A-starch.

TL;DR: A new three-dimensional structure of the crystalline part of A-starch is described in which the unit cell contains 12 glucose residues located in two left-handed, parallel-stranded double helices packed in a parallel fashion; four water molecules are located between these helices.
