Journal ArticleDOI
Pyrosequencing-derived bacterial, archaeal, and fungal diversity of spacecraft hardware destined for Mars.
TL;DR: The majority of bacterial OTU observed as being recurrent belonged to actinobacteria and alphaproteobacteria, supporting the hypothesis that the measures of cleanliness exerted in spacecraft assembly cleanrooms (SAC) inadvertently select for the organisms which are the most fit to survive long journeys in space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fungal taxonomy and sequence-based nomenclature.
Robert Lücking,M. Catherine Aime,Barbara Robbertse,Andrew N. Miller,Takayuki Aoki,Hiran A. Ariyawansa,Gianluigi Cardinali,Pedro W. Crous,Pedro W. Crous,Irina S. Druzhinina,Irina S. Druzhinina,David M. Geiser,David L. Hawksworth,Kevin D. Hyde,Laszlo Irinyi,Rajesh Jeewon,Peter R. Johnston,Paul M. Kirk,Elaine Malosso,Tom W. May,Wieland Meyer,Henrik R. Nilsson,Maarja Öpik,Vincent Robert,Vincent Robert,Marc Stadler,Marco Thines,Duong Vu,Andrey Yurkov,Ning Zhang,Conrad L. Schoch +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a solution for the nomenclature of taxa known only from sequences to facilitate consistent reporting and communication in the literature and public sequence repositories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incorporating molecular data in fungal systematics: a guide for aspiring researchers
Kevin D. Hyde,Dhanushka Udayanga,Dimuthu S. Manamgoda,Leho Tedersoo,Ellen Larsson,Kessy Abarenkov,Yann J. K. Bertrand,Bengt Oxelman,Martin Hartmann,Håvard Kauserud,Martin Ryberg,Erik Kristiansson,Henrik R. Nilsson +12 more
TL;DR: A reflective overview of all major steps in a taxonomic study that draws from molecular data is provided with the purpose to assist research students about to begin their first study using DNA-based methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metaxa2 Database Builder: enabling taxonomic identification from metagenomic or metabarcoding data using any genetic marker.
Johan Bengtsson-Palme,Johan Bengtsson-Palme,Rodney T. Richardson,Marco Meola,Christian Wurzbacher,Christian Wurzbacher,Émilie D. Tremblay,Kaisa Thorell,Kärt Kanger,K. Martin Eriksson,Guillaume J. Bilodeau,Reed M. Johnson,Martin Hartmann,Henrik R. Nilsson +13 more
TL;DR: An update to Metaxa2 is presented that enables the use of any genetic marker for taxonomic classification of metagenome and amplicon sequence data and finds that while there are wide differences in performance between different genetic markers, the software performs satisfactorily provided that the input taxonomy and sequence data are of high quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fungal communities in groundwater springs along the volcanic zone of Iceland
Christian Wurzbacher,Agnes-Katharina Kreiling,Sten Svantesson,Sten Svantesson,Silke Van den Wyngaert,Ellen Larsson,Felix Heeger,Henrik R. Nilsson,Snæbjörn Pálsson +8 more
TL;DR: Aquatic fungi are a largely unexplored group of organisms with a still unknown diversity of ecological niches as mentioned in this paper, and they are a relatively unexplored subgroup of organisms.
