Journal ArticleDOI

Pyrosequencing-derived bacterial, archaeal, and fungal diversity of spacecraft hardware destined for Mars.

TL;DR: The majority of bacterial OTU observed as being recurrent belonged to actinobacteria and alphaproteobacteria, supporting the hypothesis that the measures of cleanliness exerted in spacecraft assembly cleanrooms (SAC) inadvertently select for the organisms which are the most fit to survive long journeys in space.
Journal ArticleDOI

Incorporating molecular data in fungal systematics: a guide for aspiring researchers

TL;DR: A reflective overview of all major steps in a taxonomic study that draws from molecular data is provided with the purpose to assist research students about to begin their first study using DNA-based methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metaxa2 Database Builder: enabling taxonomic identification from metagenomic or metabarcoding data using any genetic marker.

TL;DR: An update to Metaxa2 is presented that enables the use of any genetic marker for taxonomic classification of metagenome and amplicon sequence data and finds that while there are wide differences in performance between different genetic markers, the software performs satisfactorily provided that the input taxonomy and sequence data are of high quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fungal communities in groundwater springs along the volcanic zone of Iceland

TL;DR: Aquatic fungi are a largely unexplored group of organisms with a still unknown diversity of ecological niches as mentioned in this paper, and they are a relatively unexplored subgroup of organisms.
