MicroRNA-221/222 upregulation indicates the activation of stellate cells and the progression of liver fibrosis

TL;DR: Among these miRNAs, miR-221/222 were upregulated in LX-2 cells and increased during the course of culture-dependent activation of mouse primary stellate cells, in a manner similar to the expression of α1(I) collagen and α-smooth muscle actin mRNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Erythrophagocytosis by Liver Macrophages (Kupffer Cells) Promotes Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Fibrosis in a Rabbit Model of Steatohepatitis: Implications for the Pathogenesis of Human Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

TL;DR: The results indicate that the engulfment of PS-externalized, apoptotic signal-positive, erythrocytes by hepatic macrophages may lead to the deposition of iron derived from hemoglobin in the liver and be involved in the pathogenesis of steatohepatitis.
