Journal ArticleDOI

Autoimmune Dilated Cardiomyopathy in PD-1 Receptor-Deficient Mice

TL;DR: Results indicate that PD-1 may be an important factor contributing to the prevention of autoimmune diseases and high-titer circulating IgG autoantibodies reactive to a 33-kilodalton protein expressed specifically on the surface of cardiomyocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI

In situ detection of lipid peroxidation and oxidative DNA damage in non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases.

TL;DR: Oxidative cellular damage occurs frequently in livers with NAFLD and may be associated with some clinico-pathological features ofNAFLD including liver fibrosis and possibly, hepatocarcinogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a Stellate Cell Activation-associated Protein (STAP) with Peroxidase Activity Found in Rat Hepatic Stellate Cells

TL;DR: Results indicate that STAP is a novel endogenous peroxidase catabolizing hydrogen peroxide and lipid hydroperoxides, both of which have been reported to trigger stellate cell activation and consequently promote progression of liver fibrosis and could thus play a role as an antifibrotic scavenger of peroxides in the liver.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for a role of mast cells in the evolution to congestive heart failure

TL;DR: Observations suggest that mast cells play a critical role in the progression of heart failure, and stabilization of mast cells may represent a new approach in the management ofHeart failure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytoglobin/STAP, its unique localization in splanchnic fibroblast-like cells and function in organ fibrogenesis.

TL;DR: Results indicate that Cygb/STAP is a tissue globin uniquely localized in splanchnic fibroblastic cell lineage and may play a role in fibrotic organ disorder.
