Journal ArticleDOI

Interface between hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and brain-derived neurotrophic factor in depression

TL;DR: An integrated schema of the pathological and recovery processes of depression is illustrated and several lines of evidence from postmortem studies, animal studies, blood levels, and genetic studies suggest that BDNF is involved in the pathogenesis of depression and in the mechanism of action of biological treatments for depression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased cerebrospinal fluid interleukin-6 levels in patients with schizophrenia and those with major depressive disorder

TL;DR: The present findings suggest that IL-6 of central origin is associated with the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and MDD, although confounding effect of smoking status can not be entirely excluded.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inflammation and post-traumatic stress disorder.

TL;DR: Evidence suggestive of increased inflammation in PTSD is summarized and possible mechanisms of inflammation in this disorder are examined in terms of two different but interrelated perspectives: putative causes of increased proinflammatory activities and potential consequences that inflammation generates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of a medium-chain triglyceride-based ketogenic formula on cognitive function in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: The chronic consumption of the ketogenic formula was suggested to have positive effects on verbal memory and processing speed in patients with AD and showed significant improvement in their immediate and delayed logical memory tests compared to their baseline scores.
