Journal ArticleDOI
Alterations in Gut Microbiota of Patients With COVID-19 During Time of Hospitalization.
Tao Zuo,Fen Zhang,Grace Lui,Yun Kit Yeoh,Amy Li,Hui Zhan,Yating Wan,Arthur C.K. Chung,Chun Pan Cheung,Nan Chen,Christopher K C Lai,Zigui Chen,Eugene Y.K. Tso,Kitty S. C. Fung,Veronica L. Chan,Lowell Ling,Gavin M. Joynt,David S.C. Hui,Francis K.L. Chan,Paul K.S. Chan,Siew C. Ng +20 more
TL;DR: Fecal microbiota alterations were associated with fecal levels of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 severity, and strategies to alter the intestinal microbiota might reduce disease severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alterations in Fecal Fungal Microbiome of Patients With COVID-19 During Time of Hospitalization until Discharge.
Tao Zuo,Hui Zhan,Fen Zhang,Qin Liu,Eugene Y.K. Tso,Grace Lui,Nan Chen,Amy Li,Wenqi Lu,Francis K.L. Chan,Paul K.S. Chan,Siew C. Ng +11 more
TL;DR: Heterogeneous configurations of the fecal mycobiome are found, with enrichment of fungal pathogens from the genera Candida and Aspergillus, during hospitalization of 30 patients with COVID-19 compared with controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prolonged impairment of short-chain fatty acid and L-isoleucine biosynthesis in gut microbiome in patients with COVID-19.
Fen Zhang,Jamidu H. Y. Katima,Yating Wan,Tao Zuo,Yun Kit Yeoh,Qin Liu,Lin Zhang,Hui Zhan,Wenqi Lu,Wenye Xu,Grace Lui,Amy Li,Chun Pan Cheung,Chun-Kwok Wong,Paul K.S. Chan,Francis K.L. Chan,Siew C. Ng +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a functional profile of the gut microbiome in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is associated with altered gut microbiota composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beneficial effects of probiotic cholesterol-lowering strain of Enterococcus faecium WEFA23 from infants on diet-induced metabolic syndrome in rats.
TL;DR: Administration of E. faecium WEFA23 improved almost all key markers of MS, including obesity, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance, which supported E. FaeciumWEFA23 as a candidate for cholesterol-lowering dairy products and improvement of MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population-Level Configurations of Gut Mycobiome Across 6 Ethnicities in Urban and Rural China
Yang Sun,Tao Zuo,Chun Pan Cheung,Wenxi Gu,Yating Wan,Fen Zhang,Nan Chen,Hui Zhan,Yun Kit Yeoh,Junkun Niu,Yan Du,Fengrui Zhang,Yunling Wen,Jun Yu,Joseph J.Y. Sung,Paul K.S. Chan,Francis K.L. Chan,Kunhua Wang,Siew C. Ng,Yinglei Miao +19 more
TL;DR: The data highlight for the first time that geography, urbanization, and ethnicity, and habitual diets play an important role in shaping the gut mycobiome composition.
