Mitochondria-targeted plastoquinone derivatives as tools to interrupt execution of the aging program. 1. Cationic plastoquinone derivatives: Synthesis and in vitro studies
Yuri N. Antonenko,A. V. Avetisyan,Lora E. Bakeeva,Boris V. Chernyak,Vyacheslav A. Chertkov,Lidia V. Domnina,O. Yu. Ivanova,D. S. Izyumov,Khailova Ls,S.S. Klishin,Galina A. Korshunova,Konstantin G. Zamyatnin,Vladimir P. Skulachev +32 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that SkQs are rechargeable, mitochondria-targeted antioxidants of very high efficiency and specificity and might be used to effectively prevent ROS-induced oxidation of lipids and proteins in the inner mitochondrial membrane in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
The interaction between dinitrosy iron complexes and intermediates of oxidative stress
Konstantin B. Shumaev,Gubkin Aa,S. A. Gubkina,L. L. Gudkov,I. V. Sviryaeva,Alexander A. Timoshin,A. F. Topunov,Anatoly F. Vanin,Enno K. Ruuge +8 more
TL;DR: It was found that iron dinitrosyl complexes with various anion ligands efficiently inhibited the formation of probucol phenoxyl radical in the hemin-H2O2 system, different components of these complexes being involved in the antioxidant action.
Journal ArticleDOI
Formation of dinitrosyl iron complexes in cardiac mitochondria
Konstantin B. Shumaev,I. V. Sviryaeva,S. A. Gubkina,T. S. Krivova,A. F. Topunov,Anatoly F. Vanin,Enno K. Ruuge +6 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that iron-and sulfur-containing proteins and low-molecular-weight iron complexes are the sources of iron for DNIC formation in mitochondrial suspensions and a combination of DNIC and S-nitrosothiols inhibited effectively the respiration of cardiomyocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI
[Formation of superoxide radicals in isolated cardiac mitochondria: effect of low oxygen concentration].
TL;DR: It is shown that isolated heart mitochondria can produce superoxide even at an oxygen partial pressure of 17.5 mmHg, though at a rate considerably lower than under normal conditions, and raising the oxygen concentration increases the rate of superoxide generation.
Journal ArticleDOI
EPR spectra of the trimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone anion-radical: Results of calculations by the density functional method and their comparison with experiment
TL;DR: In this paper, the EPR spectrum of the trimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone anion-radical was simulated on the basis of these calculations, which were in good agreement with the experimental spectrum of trimethyl 1, 4-benzosemiquinone dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide.
