Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of oxidative stress on dynamics of mitochondrial reticulum

TL;DR: It is shown that inhibitors of the respiratory chain cause fission of mitochondria in HeLa cells and fibroblasts, whereas a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant (MitoQ) inhibits this effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mitochondria as source of reactive oxygen species under oxidative stress. Study with novel mitochondria-targeted antioxidants — the “Skulachev-ion” derivatives

TL;DR: It was shown that mitochondria-targeted antioxidants at nanomolar concentrations rapidly and selectively accumulated in mitochondria and prevented oxidation of mitochondrial components under oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide, and the possible role of the small fraction of “bad” mitochondria in cell physiology is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reactive oxygen species generated in mitochondria induce fragmentation of the mitochondrial reticulum in HeLa cells

TL;DR: The pathway of signal transmission from various stimuli that induce oxidative stress or apoptosis to the machinery of mitochondrial fission is of interest and the central role in this pathway may be played by reactive oxygen species (ROSs), because their content increases during oxidative stress and apoptosis.
