Journal ArticleDOI

Activation of human aortic smooth-muscle cells is inhibited by PPARα but not by PPARγ activators

TL;DR: It is concluded that activators of PPARα inhibit the inflammatory response of aortic smooth-muscle cells and decrease the concentration of plasma acute-phase proteins, indicating that PPAR α in the vascular wall may influence the process of atherosclerosis and re-stenosis.
Journal Article

Biochemical and pharmacological characterization of the cyclooxygenase activity of human blood prostaglandin endoperoxide synthases.

TL;DR: A model of human prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase-2 expression allowing the assessment of pharmacological inhibition in vitro and ex vivo was characterized and cyclooxygenase activity increased in parallel with the mass of a monocyte protein doublet analyzed by Western blot using antibodies directed against the carboxyl-terminal portion of human PGHS-2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elevated levels of 8-iso-prostaglandin F2alpha in pericardial fluid of patients with heart failure: a potential role for in vivo oxidant stress in ventricular dilatation and progression to heart failure.

TL;DR: Pericardial levels of 8-iso-PGF2alpha increase with the functional severity of heart failure and are associated with ventricular dilatation, suggesting an important role for in vivo oxidant stress on ventricular remodeling and the progression to heart failure.
Journal Article

Immunological characterization of urinary 8-epi-prostaglandin F2 alpha excretion in man.

TL;DR: Preliminary results showed that excretion increased as a function of age, and an enzyme immunoassays and a radioimmunoassay were developed for measuring urinary concentrations of 8-epi-PGF2 alpha by raising antibodies against this compound.
