Global, regional, and national estimates of levels of preterm birth in 2014: a systematic review and modelling analysis.
Saifon Chawanpaiboon,Joshua P. Vogel,Ann Beth Moller,Pisake Lumbiganon,Max Petzold,Max Petzold,Daniel R Hogan,Sihem Landoulsi,Nampet Jampathong,Kiattisak Kongwattanakul,Malinee Laopaiboon,Cameron Lewis,Siwanon Rattanakanokchai,Ditza N. Teng,Jadsada Thinkhamrop,Kanokwaroon Watananirun,Jun Zhang,Wei Zhou,A Metin Gülmezoglu +18 more
TL;DR: To better understand the epidemiology of preterm birth, the quality and volume of data needs to be improved, including standardisation of definitions, measurement, and reporting.
Journal ArticleDOI
The World Health Organization Fetal Growth Charts: A Multinational Longitudinal Study of Ultrasound Biometric Measurements and Estimated Fetal Weight
Torvid Kiserud,Torvid Kiserud,Gilda Piaggio,Guillermo Carroli,Mariana Widmer,José Ferreira de Carvalho,Lisa Neerup Jensen,Daniel Giordano,José Guilherme Cecatti,Hany Abdel Aleem,Sameera A. Talegawkar,Alexandra Benachi,Anke Diemert,Antoinette Tshefu Kitoto,Jadsada Thinkhamrop,Pisake Lumbiganon,Ann Tabor,Alka Kriplani,Rogelio Gonzalez Perez,Kurt Hecher,Mark A. Hanson,A Metin Gülmezoglu,Lawrence D. Platt +22 more
TL;DR: There was asymmetric distribution of growth of EFW: a slightly wider distribution among the lower percentiles during early weeks shifted to a notably expanded distribution of the higher percentiles in late pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcium supplementation (other than for preventing or treating hypertension) for improving pregnancy and infant outcomes
Pranom Buppasiri,Pisake Lumbiganon,Jadsada Thinkhamrop,Chetta Ngamjarus,Malinee Laopaiboon,Nancy Medley +5 more
TL;DR: A review of published, unpublished and ongoing randomised controlled trials comparing maternal, fetal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women who received calcium supplementation versus placebo or no treatment indicates that there are no clear additional benefits to calcium supplementation in prevention of preterm birth or low infant birthweight.
Journal ArticleDOI
Misoprostol as an adjunct to standard uterotonics for treatment of post-partum haemorrhage: a multicentre, double-blind randomised trial
Mariana Widmer,Jennifer Blum,G Justus Hofmeyr,Guillermo Carroli,Hany Abdel-Aleem,Pisake Lumbiganon,Nguyen Thi Nhu Ngoc,Daniel Wojdyla,Jadsada Thinkhamrop,Mandisa Singata,Luciano Mignini,Mahmoud A Abdel-Aleem,Tran Son Thach,Beverly Winikoff +13 more
TL;DR: Findings from this study do not support clinical use of 600 microg sublingual misoprostol in addition to standard injectable uterotonics for treatment of post-partum haemorrhage.
Reference EntryDOI
Prophylactic antibiotic administration in pregnancy to prevent infectious morbidity and mortality.
TL;DR: Antibiotic prophylaxis given during the second or third trimester of pregnancy reduces the risk of prelabour rupture of the membranes when given routinely to pregnant women and there is a possibility of adverse effects such as neonatal sepsis.
