Instantaneous isotropic volumetric imaging of fast biological processes.
Nils Wagner,Nils Norlin,Jakob Gierten,Jakob Gierten,Gustavo de Medeiros,Bálint Balázs,Joachim Wittbrodt,Lars Hufnagel,Robert Prevedel +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that combining selective-volume illumination with simultaneous acquisition of orthogonal light fields yields three-dimensional images with high, isotropic spatial resolution and a significant reduction of reconstruction artefacts, thereby overcoming current limitations of light-field microscopy implementations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and functional insights into the fractal structure of the heart
Hannah Meyer,Hannah Meyer,Timothy J W Dawes,Timothy J W Dawes,Marta Serrani,Marta Serrani,Wenjia Bai,Pawel Tokarczuk,Jiashen Cai,Jiashen Cai,Antonio de Marvao,Albert Henry,R. Thomas Lumbers,R. Thomas Lumbers,Jakob Gierten,Jakob Gierten,Thomas Thumberger,Joachim Wittbrodt,James S. Ware,James S. Ware,Daniel Rueckert,Paul M. Matthews,Sanjay K Prasad,Maria Laura Costantino,Stuart A. Cook,Ewan Birney,Declan P. O'Regan +26 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide association study shows that myocardial trabeculae are an important determinant of cardiac performance in the adult heart, identifies conserved pathways that regulate structural complexity and reveals the influence of trabECulae on the susceptibility to cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of two‐pore‐domain (K2P) potassium leak channels by the tyrosine kinase inhibitor genistein
Jakob Gierten,Eckhard Ficker,Ramona Bloehs,K Schlömer,Sven Kathöfer,Eberhard P. Scholz,Edgar Zitron,Claudia Kiesecker,Alexander Bauer,Ruediger Becker,Hugo A. Katus,Christoph A. Karle,D. Thomas +12 more
TL;DR: The objective of this study was to investigate TK regulation of K2P channels and found signalling via protein tyrosine kinases (TKs) has been implicated in ion channel modulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep learning-enhanced light-field imaging with continuous validation.
Nils Wagner,Fynn Beuttenmueller,Nils Norlin,Jakob Gierten,Jakob Gierten,Juan Carlos Boffi,Joachim Wittbrodt,Martin Weigert,Lars Hufnagel,Robert Prevedel,Anna Kreshuk +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid light-field light-sheet microscope and deep learning-based volume reconstruction is proposed for high-resolution volumetric image data acquisition at high-speed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The human cardiac K2P3.1 (TASK-1) potassium leak channel is a molecular target for the class III antiarrhythmic drug amiodarone
Jakob Gierten,Eckhard Ficker,Ramona Bloehs,Patrick A. Schweizer,Edgar Zitron,Eberhard P. Scholz,Christoph A. Karle,Hugo A. Katus,Dierk Thomas +8 more
TL;DR: Amiodarone blockade of hK2P3.1 channels may cause prolongation of cardiac repolarization and action potential duration in patients with high individual plasma concentrations, possibly contributing to the antiarrhythmic efficacy of the class III drug.
