Molecular and functional characterization of the Drosophila melanogaster conserved smORFome

TL;DR: This study conducted an embryonic ribosome profiling experiment and applied a machine learning approach, finding support for translation of 82 of these smORFs during embryogenesis, and embarked on functional characterization using CRISPR knockout/activation, RNAi knockdown, and cDNA overexpression, revealing diverse phenotypes.

BLOCCS: Block Sparse Canonical Correlation Analysis With Application To Interpretable Omics Integration.

TL;DR: This work introduces Block Sparse Canonical Correlation Analysis which estimates multiple pairs of canonical directions at once at once, resulting in significantly improved orthogonality of the sparse directions which, it is demonstrated, translates to more interpretable solutions.
