Journal ArticleDOI

Complex oscillations and waves of calcium in pancreatic acinar cells

TL;DR: In this paper, a bifurcation analysis of a model of Ca2+ wave propagation in the basal region of pancreatic acinar cells is performed, where solitary waves exist and appear to be stable for a significant interval of the primary wave parameter (i.e., the concentration of inositol trisphosphate) but are eventually replaced by irregular spatio-temporal behaviour.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in the criticality of Hopf bifurcations due to certain model reduction techniques in systems with multiple timescales

TL;DR: This article shows when a physiological model reduction technique in a slow-fast system is mathematically justified, and provides counterexamples showing that this technique can give erroneous results near the onset of oscillatory behaviour, which is, practically, the region of most importance in a model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiscale modelling of saliva secretion.

TL;DR: A multiscale model of saliva secretion is reviewed, describing in brief how the model is constructed and what it has so far learned, and the importance of modal behaviour of IPR.
Journal ArticleDOI

What Do Aquaporin Knockout Studies Tell Us about Fluid Transport in Epithelia

TL;DR: It is found that a simple, transcellular-only osmotic mechanism sufficiently predicts the results of knockout studies and criticisms of this mechanism are found to be overstated.
