TL;DR: PSC has a chronic, progressive course in children, and nearly half of patients develop an adverse liver outcome after 10 years of disease; elevations in bilirubin, gamma‐glutamyltransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase‐to‐platelet ratio index at diagnosis can identify patients at highest risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and Characteristics of Autoimmune Hepatitis
Carolina Jimenez-Rivera,Simon C. Ling,Najma Ahmed,Jason Yap,Mary Aglipay,Nick Barrowman,Samantha Graitson,Jeff Critch,Mohsin Rashid,Vicky L. Ng,Eve A. TL;DR: Most patients respond well to conventional therapy, diminishing the need for liver transplantation, and AIH is uncommon in children and adolescents in Canada.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Effect of a Low Fructose and Low Glycemic Index/Load (FRAGILE) Dietary Intervention on Indices of Liver Function, Cardiometabolic Risk Factors, and Body Composition in Children and Adolescents With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
TL;DR: Modest reductions in fructose (total/free, HFCS) and GI/GL intake result in improvements of plasma markers of liver dysfunction and cardiometabolic risk in childhood NAFLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Clinical Prediction Rule and Platelet Count Predict Esophageal Varices in Children
Juan Cristóbal Gana,Dan Turner,Giorgina Mieli–Vergani,Mark Davenport,Tamir Miloh,Yaron Avitzur,Jason Yap,Veronique D. Morinville,Herbert Brill,Simon C. Ling +9 more
TL;DR: Noninvasive tests such as CPR and platelet count can assist in triaging children for endoscopy to identify esophageal varices, and based on positive and negative predictive values, the most accurate nonin invasive tests were the CPR and Platelet counts.
