Transmission of the BSE Agent to Mice in the Absence of Detectable Abnormal Prion Protein
Corinne Ida Lasmézas,Jean-Philippe Deslys,O. Robain,Alexandre Jaegly,Vincent Beringue,Jean-Michel Peyrin,Jean-Guy Fournier,Jean-Jacques Hauw,Jean Rossier,Dominique Dormont +9 more
TL;DR: Although all of the mice injected with homogenate from BSE-infected cattle brain exhibited neurological symptoms and neuronal death, more than 55 percent had no detectable PrPres, suggesting that a further unidentified agent may actually transmit BSE.
Journal ArticleDOI
BSE transmission to macaques
Corinne Ida Lasmézas,Jean-Philippe Deslys,R Demaimay,Karim Tarik Adjou,F. Lamoury,Dominique Dormont,O. Robain,James W. Ironside,Jean-Jacques Hauw +8 more
Journal ArticleDOI
The 37-kDa/67-kDa laminin receptor acts as the cell-surface receptor for the cellular prion protein
Sabine Gauczynski,Jean-Michel Peyrin,Stéphane Haïk,Christoph Leucht,Christoph Hundt,Roman Rieger,Susanne Krasemann,Jean-Philippe Deslys,Dominique Dormont,Corinne Ida Lasmézas,Stefan Weiss +10 more
TL;DR: The results show that LRP/LR acts as the receptor for cellular PrP on the surface of mammalian cells, demonstrating that PrP does not act as a co‐receptor of L RP/LR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of interaction domains of the prion protein with its 37-kDa/67-kDa laminin receptor
Christoph Hundt,Jean-Michel Peyrin,Stéphane Haïk,Sabine Gauczynski,Christoph Leucht,Roman Rieger,Maria Louise Riley,Jean-Philippe Deslys,Dominique Dormont,Corinne Ida Lasmézas,Stefan Weiss +10 more
TL;DR: This work identifies direct and heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG)‐dependent interaction sites mediating the binding of the cellular PrP to its receptor, which is demonstrated in vitro on recombinant proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel methods for disinfection of prion-contaminated medical devices
Guillaume Fichet,Emmanuel Comoy,Christelle Duval,Kathleen M. Antloga,Capucine Dehen,Aurore Charbonnier,Gerald E. Mcdonnell,Paul Brown,Corinne Ida Lasmézas,Jean-Philippe Deslys +9 more
TL;DR: New decontamination procedures are proposed to ensure the safety of medical and surgical instruments as well as surfaces that cannot withstand the currently recommended prion inactivation procedures.
