Epidemiological studies have revealed that a diet rich in plant-derived foods has a protective effect on human health. Identifying bioactive dietary constituents is an active area of scientific investigation that may lead to new drug discovery. Kaempferol (3,5,7-trihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one) is a flavonoid found in many edible plants (e.g. tea, broccoli, cabbage, kale, beans, endive, leek, tomato, strawberries and grapes) and in plants or botanical products commonly used in traditional medicine (e.g. Ginkgo biloba, Tilia spp, Equisetum spp, Moringa oleifera, Sophora japonica and propolis). Some epidemiological studies have found a positive association between the consumption of foods containing kaempferol and a reduced risk of developing several disorders such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Numerous preclinical studies have shown that kaempferol and some glycosides of kaempferol have a wide range of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antidiabetic, anti-osteoporotic, estrogenic/antiestrogenic, anxiolytic, analgesic and antiallergic activities. In this article, the distribution of kaempferol in the plant kingdom and its pharmacological properties are reviewed. The pharmacokinetics (e.g. oral bioavailability, metabolism, plasma levels) and safety of kaempferol are also analyzed. This information may help understand the health benefits of kaempferol-containing plants and may contribute to develop this flavonoid as a possible agent for the prevention and treatment of some diseases.

A review on the dietary flavonoid kaempferol.

GIAO NMR shift calculation has been applied to the challenging task of reliably assigning stereochemistry with quantifiable confidence when only one set of experimental data are available. We have compared several approaches for assigning a probability to each candidate structure and have tested the ability of these methods to distinguish up to 64 possible diastereoisomers of 117 different molecules, using NMR shifts obtained in rapid and computationally inexpensive single-point calculations on molecular mechanics geometries without time-consuming ab initio geometry optimization. We show that a probability analysis based on the errors in each 13C or 1H shift is significantly more successful at making correct assignments with high confidence than are probabilities based on the correlation coefficient and mean absolute error parameters. A review on recent developments of indole-containing antiviral agents.

Objective To investigate chemical constituents of Iodes cirrhosa. Method Constituents were isolated by using a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and C-18, as well as reversed-phase HPLC. Structures of the isolates were identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Result Twenty-four compounds were obtained from a H2O-soluble portion of an ethanolic extract of the root of lodes cirrhosa Turcz. Conclusion Compounds 1-24 were obtained from the genus for the first time.

Eighteen compounds were isolated by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over macroporous resin, MCI gel, silica gel, and sephadex LH-20 and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis as adinoside A (1), stryspinoside (2), benzyl alcohol beta-glucopyranoside (3), benzyl 2-o-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2,6-dihydroxybenzoate (4) , gentisic acid 2-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), eugenyl beta-D-glucopyranoside (6) , eugenyl-P-xylopyranosyl-(1-->6)-beta-glucopyranoside (7), (-)-lyoniresinol 9-O-fP-D-glucopyranoside (8) , (+)-lyoniresinol 9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (9) , apigenin-7-O-L-rhamnopyranoside (10), luteolin-3 '-O-L-rhamnoside (11) , ursolic acid (12) , beta-sitosteryl-3beta-glucopyranoside-6'-O-palmitate (13), abscisic acid (14), guanosine (15), 5-methyluracil (16), trans-cinnamic acid (17), and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde(18). These compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

Chemical constituents from flower buds of Lonicera japonica

Two new biflavonoids, daphnogirins A (1) and B (2), were obtained from the roots of Daphne giraldii. Their structures were established on the basis of the spectral data and X-ray diffraction data of the co-crystal of 1 and 2. Daphnogrins A and B have the same configuration at C-1 and opposite configurations at C-16 and C-17. Oxygen radical scavenging assay has indicated that they are of significant antioxidative activity.

Objiedtive:To study the chemical constituents of Phellinus igniarius . Method: Compounds were isolated by nomal phasc sillica gel and Al 2O 3 chromatography and reverse phase HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including IR, MS and NMR. Result: Five flavonoids and two coumarins were isolated from Phellinus igniarius and their structures were identified as naringenin, sakuranetin, aromadendrin, folerogenin, eriodictyol, coumarin and scopoletin. Conclusion: All these compounds were obtained from this genus for the first time.[
