Journal ArticleDOI
Bright and photostable chemigenetic indicators for extended in vivo voltage imaging.
Ahmed S. Abdelfattah,Takashi Kawashima,Amrita Singh,Amrita Singh,Ondrej Novak,Ondrej Novak,Hui Liu,Yichun Shuai,Yi Chieh Huang,Luke Campagnola,Stephanie C. Seeman,Jianing Yu,Jihong Zheng,Jonathan B. Grimm,Ronak Patel,Johannes Friedrich,Brett D. Mensh,Liam Paninski,John J. Macklin,Gabe J. Murphy,Kaspar Podgorski,Bei Jung Lin,Tsai Wen Chen,Glenn C. Turner,Zhe Liu,Minoru Koyama,Karel Svoboda,Misha B. Ahrens,Luke D. Lavis,Eric R. Schreiter +29 more
TL;DR: A GEVI is engineered, called Voltron, that uses bright and photostable synthetic dyes instead of protein-based fluorophores, thereby extending the number of neurons imaged simultaneously in vivo by a factor of 10 and enabling imaging for significantly longer durations relative to existing GEVIs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Top-down laminar organization of the excitatory network in motor cortex
TL;DR: In motor cortex, descending excitation from a preamplifier-like network of upper-layer neurons drives output neurons in lower layers, and this analysis provides a quantitative wiring-diagram framework for further investigation of the excitatory networks mediating cortical mechanisms of motor control.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neural coding during active somatosensation revealed using illusory touch
Daniel H. O'Connor,S. Andrew Hires,Zengcai V. Guo,Nuo Li,Jianing Yu,Qian-Quan Sun,Qian-Quan Sun,Daniel Huber,Daniel Huber,Karel Svoboda +9 more
TL;DR: These results show that mice integrate coding of touch with movement over timescales of a whisking bout to produce perception of active touch, and reduce activity biased behavior, consistent with a spike count code for object detection at a particular location.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recruitment of GABAergic Interneurons in the Barrel Cortex during Active Tactile Behavior.
TL;DR: Firing patterns of defined types of neurons in the barrel cortex are measured, revealing rules of recruitment for interneuron types during behavior, providing foundations for understanding computation in cortical microcircuits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Light-evoked calcium responses of isolated melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells
Andrew T. E. Hartwick,Jayne R. Bramley,Jianing Yu,Kelly Stevens,Charles N. Allen,William H. Baldridge,Patricia J. Sollars,Gary E. Pickard +7 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that Ca2+ influx through VGCCs, activated after action potential firing, was the primary source for light-evoked elevations in ipRGC [Ca2+]i.
