Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Risks of Mortality and End-Stage Renal Disease in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
Tamara Isakova,Huiliang Xie,Wei Yang,Dawei Xie,Amanda H. Anderson,Julia J. Scialla,Patricia Wahl,Orlando M. Gutiérrez,Susan Steigerwalt,Jiang He,Stanley Schwartz,Joan Lo,Akinlolu O. Ojo,James H. Sondheimer,Chi-yuan Hsu,James P. Lash,Mary B. Leonard,John W. Kusek,Harold I. Feldman,Myles Wolf +19 more
TL;DR: Elevated FGF-23 is an independent risk factor for end-stage renal disease in patients with relatively preserved kidney function and for mortality across the spectrum of chronic kidney disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
FGF23 Modifies the Relationship Between Vitamin D and Cardiac Remodeling
Bonnie Ky,Justine Shults,Martin G. Keane,Martin St. John Sutton,Myles Wolf,Harold I. Feldman,Peter P. Reese,Cheryl A.M. Anderson,Raymond R. Townsend,Rajat Deo,Joan Lo,Crystal A. Gadegbeku,Dean Carlow,Michael J. Sulik,Mary B. Leonard,Lawrence J. Appel,Alan S. Go,Jiang He,John W. Kusek,James P. Lash,Akinlolu O. Ojo,Mahboob Rahman +21 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that consideration of both hormones is crucial to understanding the role of either in cardiac remodeling, and may have important therapeutic implications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal Evolution of Markers of Mineral Metabolism in Patients With CKD: The Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study
Tamara Isakova,Xuan Cai,Jongmin Lee,Rupal Mehta,Rupal Mehta,Xiaoming Zhang,Wei Yang,Lisa Nessel,Amanda H. Anderson,Joan Lo,Anna C. Porter,Julie A. Wright Nunes,Lavinia Negrea,L. Lee Hamm,Edward Horwitz,Jing Chen,Julia J. Scialla,Ian H. de Boer,Mary B. Leonard,Harold I. Feldman,Harold I. Feldman,Myles Wolf,Lawrence J. Appel,Alan S. Go,Jiang He,James P. Lash,Akinlolu O. Ojo,Mahboob Rahman,Raymond R. Townsend +28 more
TL;DR: Among patients with progressive CKD, FGF-23 levels begin to increase 5 years beforeESKD and continue to rapidly accelerate until transition to ESKD, while PTH and phosphate levels increased modestly and calcium levels declined minimally.
