Air pollution abatement performances of green infrastructure in open road and built-up street canyon environments – A review

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined published literature on neighbourhood air quality modifications by green interventions and provided a better understanding of the interactions between vegetation and surrounding built-up environments and ascertain means of reducing local air pollution exposure using green infrastructure.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nexus between air pollution, green infrastructure and human health.

TL;DR: It is concluded that urban vegetation can facilitate broad health benefits, but there is little empirical evidence linking these benefits to air pollution reduction by urban vegetation, and appreciable efforts are needed to establish the underlying policies, design and engineering guidelines governing its deployment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Passive methods for improving air quality in the built environment: A review of porous and solid barriers

TL;DR: In this paper, a review brings together a collective of methods that have demonstrated an ability to influence air flow patterns to reduce personal exposure in the built environment, including trees and vegetation, noise barriers, low boundary walls and parked cars.
Journal ArticleDOI

Energy recovery in the water industry using micro-hydropower: an opportunity to improve sustainability

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a review of energy use and CO2 emissions in the water industry as well as highlighting the opportunities and challenges for micro-hydropower energy recovery.
Journal ArticleDOI

A strategic assessment of micro-hydropower in the UK and Irish water industry: Identifying technical and economic constraints

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a structured four-step methodology for assessing potential energy recovery sites in water and wastewater infrastructure in regions of the UK and Ireland; at service reservoirs (SRVs), pressure reducing valves (PRVs) and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
