TL;DR: In this paper, the fundamental rotational transitions of ortho-and para-H$_2^{16}$O and H$_ 2^{18]$O in absorption towards Sagittarius~B2(M) and W31C were observed and a low ortho/para ratio of $2.35 \pm 0.35 was derived.
Journal ArticleDOI
A spectral line survey of Orion KL in the bands 486-492 and 541-577 GHz with the Odin satellite II. Data analysis
Carina M. Persson,A. O. H. Olofsson,Nico Koning,Per Bergman,Per Bergman,Peter F. Bernath,Peter F. Bernath,Peter F. Bernath,John H. Black,Urban Frisk,Wolf D. Geppert,Tatsuhiko I. Hasegawa,Tatsuhiko I. Hasegawa,Åke Hjalmarson,Sun Kwok,Sun Kwok,B. Larsson,Alain Lecacheux,A. Nummelin,Michael Olberg,Aa. Sandqvist,Eva Wirström +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the Odin satellite to perform a spectral line survey in the frequency ranges 486-492 GHz and 541-577 GHz, filling the gaps between previous spectral scans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atomic and molecular gas in the merger galaxy NGC 1316 (Fornax A) and its environment
Cathy Horellou,John H. Black,J. H. van Gorkom,Francoise Combes,J. M. van der Hulst,[No Value] Charmandaris +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present and interpret observations of atomic and molecular gas toward the southern elliptical galaxy NGC 1316 (Fornax A), a strong double-lobe radio source with a disturbed optical morphology that includes numerous shells and loops.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electron densities and the excitation of CN in molecular clouds
TL;DR: In molecular clouds of modest density and relatively high fractional ionization, the rotational excitation of CN is controlled by a competition among electron impact, neutral impact and the interaction with the cosmic background radiation as mentioned in this paper.
