Ana Juan Ferrer,Francisco Guevara Hernández,Johan Tordsson,Erik Elmroth,Ahmed Ali-Eldin,Csilla Zsigri,Raül Sirvent,Jordi Guitart,Rosa M. Badia,Karim Djemame,Wolfgang Ziegler,Theo Dimitrakos,Srijith K. Nair,George Kousiouris,Kleopatra Konstanteli,Theodora Varvarigou,Benoit Hudzia,Alexander Kipp,Stefan Wesner,Marcelo Corrales,Nikolaus Forgó,Tabassum Sharif,Craig Sheridan +22 more
TL;DR: By addressing the whole service life cycle, taking into account several cloud architectures, and by taking a holistic approach to sustainable service provisioning, the toolkit aims to provide a foundation for a reliable, sustainable, and trustful cloud computing industry.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
GreenHadoop: leveraging green energy in data-processing frameworks
TL;DR: GreenHadoop is proposed, a MapReduce framework for a datacenter powered by a photovoltaic solar array and the electrical grid (as a backup) and can significantly increase green energy consumption and decrease electricity cost, compared to Hadoop.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
GreenSlot: scheduling energy consumption in green datacenters
Íñigo Goiri,Kien Le,Md. E. Haque,Ryan Beauchea,Thu D. Nguyen,Jordi Guitart,Jordi Torres,Ricardo Bianchini +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that green datacenters and green-energy-aware scheduling can have a significant role in building a more sustainable IT ecosystem.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Towards energy-aware scheduling in data centers using machine learning
Josep Ll. Berral,Íñigo Goiri,Ramon Nou,Ferran Julia,Jordi Guitart,Ricard Gavaldà,Jordi Torres +6 more
TL;DR: This work proposes a framework that provides an intelligent consolidation methodology using different techniques such as turning on/off machines, power-aware consolidation algorithms, and machine learning techniques to deal with uncertain information while maximizing performance in an energy-efficient data center.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Characterizing Cloud Federation for Enhancing Providers' Profit
TL;DR: This paper presents a complete characterization of providers' federation in the Cloud, including decision equations to outsource resources to other providers, rent free resources toother providers (i.e. insourcing), or shutdown unused nodes to save power, and characterize these decisions as a function of several parameters.
