Journal ArticleDOI
A Cross-calibrated, Multiplatform Ocean Surface Wind Velocity Product for Meteorological and Oceanographic Applications
Robert Atlas,Ross N. Hoffman,Joseph V. Ardizzone,S. Mark Leidner,J. C. Jusem,Deborah K. Smith,Daniel Gombos +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a variational analysis method is used to combine surface wind data derived from conventional and in situ sources and multiple satellites into a consistent near-global analysis at 25-km resolution, every 6 h.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the SMAP Level-4 surface and root-zone soil moisture product using in situ measurements
Rolf H. Reichle,Gabrielle De Lannoy,Qing Liu,Joseph V. Ardizzone,Andreas Colliander,Austin Conaty,Wade T. Crow,Thomas J. Jackson,Lucas A. Jones,John S. Kimball,Randal D. Koster,Sarith Mahanama,Edmond B. Smith,Aaron A. Berg,Simone Bircher,David D. Bosch,Todd G. Caldwell,Michael H. Cosh,A. Gonzalez-Zamora,Chandra Holifield Collins,Karsten Høgh Jensen,Stan Livingston,Ernesto Lopez-Baeza,José Martínez-Fernández,H. McNairn,Mahta Moghaddam,A. Pacheco,Thierry Pellarin,John H. Prueger,Tracy Rowlandson,Mark S. Seyfried,Patrick J. Starks,Zhongbo Su,M. Thibeault,Rogier van der Velde,Jeffrey P. Walker,Xiaoling Wu,Yijian Zeng +37 more
TL;DR: The Level-4 Surface and Root-Zone Soil Moisture (L4_SM) data product is generated by assimilating SMAP L-band brightness temperature observations into the NASA Catchment land surface model as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global Assessment of the SMAP Level-4 Surface and Root-Zone Soil Moisture Product Using Assimilation Diagnostics
Rolf H. Reichle,Gabrielle De Lannoy,Qing Liu,Randal D. Koster,John S. Kimball,Wade T. Crow,Joseph V. Ardizzone,Purnendu Chakraborty,Douglas W. Collins,Austin Conaty,Manuela Girotto,Manuela Girotto,Lucas A. Jones,Jana Kolassa,Jana Kolassa,Hans Lievens,Hans Lievens,Robert A. Lucchesi,Edmond B. Smith +18 more
TL;DR: The O-F auto-correlations suggest that the SMAP observations are used efficiently in western North America, the Sahel, and Australia, but not in many forested regions and the high northern latitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Version 4 of the SMAP Level-4 Soil Moisture algorithm and data product
Rolf H. Reichle,Qing Liu,Randal D. Koster,Wade T. Crow,Gabrielle De Lannoy,John S. Kimball,Joseph V. Ardizzone,David D. Bosch,Andreas Colliander,Michael H. Cosh,Jana Kolassa,Jana Kolassa,Sarith Mahanama,John H. Prueger,Patrick J. Starks,Jeffrey P. Walker +15 more
TL;DR: For example, Reichle et al. as mentioned in this paper presented an overview of recent updates in the Level-4 Soil Moisture Active Passive (L4_SM) algorithm and an assessment of the quality of the resulting Version-4 soil moisture estimates.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Application of satellite surface wind data to ocean wind analysis
TL;DR: In this paper, a new set of cross-calibrated, multi-satellite ocean surface wind data is described, and an enhanced variational analysis method (VAM) performs quality control and combines these data with available conventional ship and buoy data and ECMWF analyses.
