Harnessing nonlinearities near material absorption resonances for reducing losses in plasmonic modulators
Christian Haffner,Wolfgang Heni,Delwin L. Elder,Yuriy Fedoryshyn,Nikola Đorđević,Daniel Chelladurai,Ueli Koch,Kevin Portner,Maurizio Burla,Bruce H. Robinson,Larry R. Dalton,Juerg Leuthold +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the overall losses, power consumption and the footprint of plasmonic electro-optic modulators can be reduced when a device is operated in the vicinity of absorption resonances of an electrooptical material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progress in Multichannel All-Optical Regeneration Based on Fiber Technology
Francesca Parmigiani,Lionel Provost,Periklis Petropoulos,David J. Richardson,Wolfgang Freude,Juerg Leuthold,Andrew D. Ellis,Ioannis Tomkos +7 more
TL;DR: Two fiber-based multichannel 2R regeneration techniques for return-to-zero-on-off keying based on 1) dispersion managed systems and 2) direction and polarization multiplexing are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
RZ-DPSK transmission using a 42.7-Gb/s integrated balanced optical front end with record sensitivity
Jeffrey H. Sinsky,Andrew Adamiecki,Alan H. Gnauck,Charles A. Burrus,Juerg Leuthold,O. Wohlgemuth,Sethumadhavan Chandrasekhar,Andreas Umbach +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a record sensitivity of -37.0 dBm (38 photons/bit) was achieved for a BER of 10/sup -9/ at 42.7-Gb/s using an integrated balanced optical front end.
Journal ArticleDOI
Real-time OFDM or Nyquist pulse generation--which performs better with limited resources?
Rene Schmogrow,Rachid Bouziane,Matthias Meyer,Peter Milder,P. C. Schindler,Robert I. Killey,Polina Bayvel,Christian Koos,Wolfgang Freude,Juerg Leuthold +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a novel Nyquist pulse shaping technique, based on look-up tables requires lower resource count than equivalent IFFT-based OFDM signal generation while achieving similar performance with low inter-channel guard-bands in ultra-dense WDM.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Optically Powered Video Camera Link
Gunnar Böttger,M. Dreschmann,C. Klamouris,Michael Hübner,Moritz Röger,Andreas W. Bett,T. Kueng,Jürgen Becker,Wolfgang Freude,Juerg Leuthold +9 more
TL;DR: Inexpensive fiber optics and low-power state-of-the-art electronics are used to make >100 mW available at sites which have no direct access to an electrical network.
