Photonic Wire Bonds for Terabit/s Chip-to-Chip Interconnects

TL;DR: In this article, the concept of photonic wire bonding is introduced, where transparent waveguide wire bonds are used to bridge the gap between nanophotonic circuits located on different chips.
Journal ArticleDOI

100 GHz Plasmonic Photodetector

TL;DR: In this article, a plasmonic photodetector achieving simultaneously record high bandwidth beyond 100 GHz, an internal quantum efficiency of 36% and low footprint is demonstrated, attributed to the subwavelength confinement of the optical energy in a photoconductive-germanium waveguide detector that enables shortest drift paths for photogenerated carriers and a small resistance-capacitance product.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multimode interference couplers for the conversion and combining of zero- and first-order modes

TL;DR: Optical waveguide mode-combiners for fundamental and first-order modes, based on multimode interference (MMI) couplers, are presented in this article, where a fundamental mode is converted into a transversal first order mode and combine it in lossless fashion with a second fundamental mode.
