Journal ArticleDOI
Dementia in AIDS patients: Incidence and risk factors
Justin C. McArthur,Donald R. Hoover,Helena Bacellar,Eric N. Miller,Bruce A. Cohen,James T. Becker,Neil M.H. Graham,Julie H. McArthur,Ola A. Selnes,Lisa P. Jacobson,Barbara R. Visscher,Mauricio Concha,A. J. Saah +12 more
TL;DR: The observed association between anemia, low weight, constitutional symptoms, and dementia suggests a role for cytokines inducing both systemic and neurologic disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1 infection: no evidence of cognitive decline during the asymptomatic stages
Ola A. Selnes,Eric N. Miller,Julie H. McArthur,Barry Gordon,Alvaro Muñoz,Kathleen Sheridan,R. Fox,A. J. Saah +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a gradual cognitive decline does not occur during the early, asymptomatic stages of HIV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low prevalence of neurological and neuropsychological abnormalities in otherwise healthy HIV-1-infected individuals: results from the multicenter AIDS Cohort Study.
Justin C. McArthur,Bruce A. Cohen,Ola A. Selnes,Ashok J. Kumar,Kay Cooper,Julie H. McArthur,Gerry Soucy,David R. Cornblath,Joan S. Chmiel,Mei‐Cheng ‐C Wang,Danna L. Starkey,Harold M. Ginzburg,David G. Ostrow,Richard T. Johnson,John P. Phair,B. Frank Polk +15 more
TL;DR: The studies indicate that the prevalence of dementia and other HIV‐1–related neurological disorders is very low among healthy HIV‐2 seropositive homosexual men and the confounding effects of factors such as substance abuse or preexisting medical conditions must be considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phase 1 Clinical Trial of Apical Membrane Antigen 1: an Asexual Blood-Stage Vaccine for Plasmodium falciparum Malaria
Elissa Malkin,David Diemert,Julie H. McArthur,John R. Perreault,Aaron P. Miles,Birgitte Giersing,Gregory E. D. Mullen,Andrew C. Orcutt,Olga Muratova,May Awkal,Hong Zhou,Jin Wang,Anthony W. Stowers,Carole A. Long,Siddhartha Mahanty,Louis H. Miller,Allan Saul,Anna P. Durbin +17 more
TL;DR: This is the first AMA1 vaccine candidate to elicit functional immune responses in malaria-naïve humans, and the results support the further development of this vaccine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kaslow,M. J. VanRaden,D. Seminara +55 more
TL;DR: There is no evidence that depressive symptoms independently prognosticate worse outcomes in HIV infection, and future studies of the relationship between depression and HIV outcome should consider these variables as confounders.
