Journal ArticleDOI

Localization of HIV-1 in human brain using polymerase chain reaction/in situ hybridization and immunocytochemistry.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors combined the techniques of the polymerase chain reaction with in situ hybridization for the detection of HIV DNA, and used immunocytochemistry to identify the HIV-expressing cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measles encephalomyelitis--clinical and immunologic studies.

TL;DR: The results support the hypothesis that this demyelinating disease has a pathogenesis similar to that of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis, and a lack of intrathecal synthesis of antibody against measles virus suggests that measles encephalomeelitis may not be dependent on virus replication within the central nervous system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Creutzfeldt–Jakob Disease and Related Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies

TL;DR: The name Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease has caused distress to patients who have been notified that they may have received tainted blood or blood products, and it has been popularized by extensive media coverage of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (“mad cow disease”), with its profound economic impact in Europe.
