Journal ArticleDOI
Biomphalysin, a New β Pore-forming Toxin Involved in Biomphalaria glabrata Immune Defense against Schistosoma mansoni
Richard Galinier,Julien Portela,Julien Portela,Yves Moné,Yves Moné,Yves Moné,Jean-François Allienne,Jean-François Allienne,Hélène Henri,Stephane Delbecq,Guillaume Mitta,Guillaume Mitta,Benjamin Gourbal,Benjamin Gourbal,David Duval,David Duval +15 more
TL;DR: These results provide the first functional description of a mollusk immune effector protein involved in killing S. mansoni and show that, in contrast to what has been reported for most other members of the family, lytic activity of Biomphalysin is not dependent on proteolytic processing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for specific genotype-dependent immune priming in the lophotrochozoan Biomphalaria glabrata snail.
Julien Portela,David Duval,Anne Rognon,Richard Galinier,Jérôme Boissier,Christine Coustau,Guillaume Mitta,André Théron,Benjamin Gourbal +8 more
TL;DR: Investigation in the Lophotrochozoan snail species Biomphalaria glabrata found that snails were protected against a secondary homologous infection whatever the host strain, and identified a genotype-dependent immune priming in the fresh-water snail B. glabRata.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antischistosomal activity of trioxaquines: in vivo efficacy and mechanism of action on Schistosoma mansoni.
Julien Portela,Julien Portela,Jérôme Boissier,Jérôme Boissier,Benjamin Gourbal,Benjamin Gourbal,Vincent Pradines,Vincent Collière,Frédéric Coslédan,Bernard Meunier,Anne Robert +10 more
TL;DR: The synergy observed with praziquantel on infected mice is in favor of the development of these trioxaquines as potential anti-schistosomal agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel bacterial pathogen of Biomphalaria glabrata: a potential weapon for schistosomiasis control?
David Duval,Richard Galinier,Gabriel Mouahid,Eve Toulza,Jean-François Allienne,Julien Portela,Christophe Calvayrac,Anne Rognon,Nathalie Arancibia,Guillaume Mitta,André Théron,Benjamin Gourbal +11 more
TL;DR: This is the first account of a novel Paenibacillus strain, Ca.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chromatin structural changes around satellite repeats on the female sex chromosome in Schistosoma mansoni and their possible role in sex chromosome emergence
Julie M. J. Lepesant,Céline Cosseau,Jérôme Boissier,Michael Freitag,Julien Portela,Deborah Climent,Cecile Perrin,Adhemar Zerlotini,Christoph Grunau +8 more
TL;DR: This study provides for the first time evidence for the hypothesis that, at least in organisms with a ZW type of sex chromosomes, repeat-induced chromatin structure changes could indeed be the initial event in sex chromosome emergence.
