Journal ArticleDOI

Active gas venting through hydrate-bearing sediments on the Vestnesa Ridge, offshore W-Svalbard

TL;DR: A recent cruise with R/V Jan Mayen discovered methane flares in the water column above the seafloor pockmark field at the onset of the Vestnesa Ridge as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gas hydrates along the northeastern Atlantic margin: possible hydrate-bound margin instabilities and possible release of methane

TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of gas hydrates and free gas in oceanic sediments along the northeastern European Margin is documented in high-frequency nearvertical and wide-angle seismic reflection data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rethinking Late Weichselian ice-sheet dynamics in coastal NW Svalbard

TL;DR: In this article, a suite of glacial sediments in the Kongsfjordrenna cross-shelf trough can be traced southwards to the shelf west of Prins Karls Forland, indicating that glacial ice also covered the coastal lowlands of northwest Svalbard.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of gas hydrate concentration from multi-component seismic data at sites on the continental margins of NW Svalbard and the Storegga region of Norway

TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution seismic experiments, employing arrays of closely spaced, four-component ocean-bottom seismic recorders, were conducted at a site off western Svalbard and a site on the northern margin of the Storegga slide, off Norway to investigate how well seismic data can be used to determine the concentration of methane hydrate beneath the seabed.
