Journal ArticleDOI
Contractile activity of human skeletal muscle cells prevents insulin resistance by inhibiting pro-inflammatory signalling pathways
S. Lambernd,Annika Taube,A. Schober,B. Platzbecker,Sven W. Görgens,Raphaela Schlich,K. Jeruschke,Jürgen Weiss,Kristin Eckardt,Jürgen Eckel +9 more
TL;DR: In this novel model, muscle contractile activity eliminates insulin resistance by blocking pro-inflammatory signalling pathways in human skeletal muscle cells, and provides a unique tool for investigating the molecular mechanisms that mediate the beneficial effects of muscle contraction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sphingolipid subtypes differentially control proinsulin processing and systemic glucose homeostasis
K Grieß,Michael Rieck,Nadine Müller,Gergely Karsai,Sonja Hartwig,A Pelligra,Robert Hardt,Caroline Schlegel,Jennifer Kuboth,Celina Uhlemeyer,Sandra Trenkamp,K. Jeruschke,Jürgen Weiss,Leon Peifer-Weiß,Weiwei Xu,Sandra Cames,Xiaoyuan Yi,Miriam Cnop,Mathias Beller,H. Stark,Arun Kumar Kondadi,Andreas S. Reichert,Daniel F. Markgraf,M Wammers,Dieter Häussinger,Oliver Kuss,Stefan Lehr,Decio L. Eizirik,Heiko Lickert,Eckhard Lammert,Michael Roden,Dominic Winter,Hadi Al-Hasani,Doris Höglinger,Thorsten Hornemann,Jens C. Brüning,Bengt F. Belgardt +36 more
TL;DR: In this article , the role of specific sphingolipids (SLs) species in β-cell function and demise is investigated. But, the roles of specific SL subtypes and SL-binding proteins in β cell function and T2D-associated β cell failure is unclear.
