Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Assessment of Tuberculosis in Contacts by IFN-γ Release Assays. A Tuberculosis Network European Trials Group Study.
Jean-Pierre Zellweger,Giovanni Sotgiu,Michael Block,Simone Dore,Neus Altet,Rebecca Blunschi,Matthias Bogyi,Graham H. Bothamley,Christina Bothe,Luigi Codecasa,Patrizia Costa,José Domínguez,Raquel Duarte,Andreas Fløe,Isabelle Fresard,José-María García-García,Delia Goletti,Petra Halm,Doris Hellwig,Eveline Henninger,Helga Heykes-Uden,Liane Horn,Katarzyna Kruczak,Irene Latorre,Geneviève Pache,Heidrun Rath,Felix C. Ringshausen,Asunción Seminario Ruiz,Ivan Solovic,Maria Luiza de Souza-Galvão,Ursula Widmer,Peter Witte,Christoph Lange +32 more
TL;DR: Tuberculosis rarely developed among contacts, and preventive chemotherapy effectively reduced the tuberculosis risk among IGRA-positive contacts, although the negative predictive value of IGRAs is high, the risk for the development of tuberculosis is poorly predicted by these assays.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of IGRA tests and TST in the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection and predicting tuberculosis in risk groups in Krakow, Poland
Katarzyna Kruczak,Mariusz Duplaga,Marek Sanak,Adam Ćmiel,Lucyna Mastalerz,Krzysztof Sładek,Ewa Nizankowska-Mogilnicka +6 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of positive QFT-GIT and TST was high in the study risk groups and the best predictor of active TB in the homeless and close contacts groups was a positive Q FT-G IT together with a positive TST.
Journal ArticleDOI
Illness perception in tuberculosis by implementation of the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire – a TBNET study
Dragica Pesut,Bogdana Bursuc,Milica Bulajic,Ivan Solovic,Katarzyna Kruczak,Raquel Duarte,Adriana Sorete-Arbore,Marinela Răileanu,Irina Strambu,Ljudmila Nagorni-Obradovic,Tatjana Adzic,Zorica Lazic,Maria Zlatev-Ionescu,Sorokhaibam Bhagyabati,Irom Ibungo Singh,Govind Narayan Srivastava +15 more
TL;DR: An effective personalized approach may improve communication with TB patients and contribute to better behavioral strategies in disease control by means of the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon-gamma release assays and tuberculin skin testing for diagnosing latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in at-risk groups in Poland.
TL;DR: It is difficult to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection with certainty based on measures of tuberculin-skin-test induration diameter alone, but the agreement of the QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube test increases with the tuberculins skin test diameter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection control, genetic assessment of drug resistance and drug susceptibility testing in the current management of multidrug/extensively-resistant tuberculosis (M/XDR-TB) in Europe: A tuberculosis network European Trialsgroup (TBNET) study.

Volchenkov,Gerrit Woltmann +62 more
TL;DR: Infection control for inpatients with M/XDR-TB remains a problem in high incidence countries, and tests to plan regimens tailored to the drug susceptibilities of the strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis are significantly delayed, allowing for further drug resistance to develop.
