Extreme hydrothermal conditions at an active plate-bounding fault

Rupert Sutherland, +68 more
- 01 Jun 2017 -
TL;DR: The data and models show that highly anomalous fluid pressure and temperature gradients in the upper part of the seismogenic zone can be created by positive feedbacks between processes of fault slip, rock fracturing and alteration, and landscape development at plate-bounding faults.
Journal ArticleDOI

Petrophysical, Geochemical, and Hydrological Evidence for Extensive Fracture‐Mediated Fluid and Heat Transport in the Alpine Fault's Hanging‐Wall Damage Zone

John Townend, +67 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors interpret measurements made in the hanging-wall of the Alpine Fault during the second stage of the Deep Fault Drilling Project (DFDP-2) and present observational evidence for extensive fracturing and high hanging wall hydraulic conductivity (∼10−9 to 10−7 m/s).
Journal ArticleDOI

Cumulative rate analysis (CURATE): A clustering algorithm for swarm dominated catalogs

TL;DR: In this article, a new cumulative rate (CURATE) clustering method was proposed to identify earthquake sequences especially in regions with swarm activity, which is distinct from previous clustering techniques in that no direct assumptions about physical processes relating to temporal decay or earthquake-earthquake interaction are made.
