Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers and clinical staging in psychiatry.
Patrick D. McGorry,Matcheri S. Keshavan,Sherilyn Goldstone,Paul Amminger,Kelly Allott,Michael Berk,Suzie Lavoie,Christos Pantelis,Alison R. Yung,Stephen J. Wood,Ian B. Hickie +10 more
TL;DR: The staging model explicitly considers the evolution of psychopathology during the development of a mental illness and emphasizes that progression of illness is by no means inevitable, but can be altered by providing appropriate interventions that target individual modifiable risk and protective factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cognition at illness onset as a predictor of later functional outcome in early psychosis: systematic review and methodological critique.
TL;DR: Tentatively, cognition may be prognostic in EP, especially for longer-term outcomes; further research that addresses the methodological issues identified, including examination of social cognition and other non-cognitive predictors, is needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute-phase and 1-year follow-up results of a randomized controlled trial of CBT versus Befriending for first-episode psychosis : the ACE project
Henry J. Jackson,Patrick D. McGorry,Eoin Killackey,Sarah Bendall,Kelly Allott,Paul Dudgeon,John Gleeson,Tracy Johnson,Susan Harrigan +8 more
TL;DR: There is some preliminary evidence that ACE promotes better early recovery in functioning and this finding needs to be replicated in other independent research centres with larger samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
The efficacy and safety of nutrient supplements in the treatment of mental disorders: a meta‐review of meta‐analyses of randomized controlled trials
Joseph Firth,Joseph Firth,Joseph Firth,Scott B Teasdale,Kelly Allott,Dan Siskind,Wolfgang Marx,Jack Cotter,Nicola Veronese,Felipe Barreto Schuch,Lee Smith,Marco Solmi,André F. Carvalho,Davy Vancampfort,Michael Berk,Brendon Stubbs,Brendon Stubbs,Jerome Sarris,Jerome Sarris +18 more
TL;DR: Clinicians should be informed of the nutrient supplements with established efficacy for certain conditions (such as eicosapentaenoic acid in depression), but also made aware of those currently lacking evidentiary support, to further elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Social cognition in clinical "at risk" for psychosis and first episode psychosis populations.
Andrew Thompson,Andrew Thompson,Alicia Papas,Alicia Papas,Cali F. Bartholomeusz,Kelly Allott,G. Paul Amminger,G. Paul Amminger,Barnaby Nelson,Stephen J. Wood,Stephen J. Wood,Alison R. Yung +11 more
TL;DR: Social cognition is generally impaired in FEP patients but there are fewer deficits in a UHR group, and longitudinal research is needed to investigate whether social cognition deficits, such as ToM, are risk factors in UHR groups for subsequent transition to full-threshold psychosis.
