Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the HER2, estrogen and progesterone receptor expression profile of primary tumor, metastases and circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the molecular detection of HER2 overexpression in CTC is predictive of the HER2 status on metastases, and detailed analysis of ER and PR expression rates in tissue samples and CTCs may provide useful information for making treatment decisions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular mechanisms of metastasis

TL;DR: The symposium covered new aspects and important questions related to the events of metastasis in both humans and animals and the hope is that further unraveling of the direct and indirect molecular events of lymphatic metastasis will lead to new approaches in developing effective therapeutics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Limited prognostic value of preoperative circulating tumor cells for early biochemical recurrence in patients with localized prostate cancer

TL;DR: Using the CellSearch system, CTCs infrequently detected in patients with localized tumors before RP did not correlate significantly with PSA, disease characteristics, or the development of BCR, however, larger cohorts with extended follow-up are needed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Current status in human breast cancer micrometastasis.

TL;DR: Understanding tumor dormancy and identifying metastatic stem cells might result in the development of new concepts for antimetastatic therapies, and research on disseminated tumor cells/circulating tumor cells will help to identify novel targets for biological therapies aimed at preventing metastatic relapse and to monitor the efficacy of these therapies.
