Early science with sofia, the stratospheric observatory for infrared astronomy

TL;DR: The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is an airborne observatory consisting of a specially modified Boeing 747SP with a 2.7 m telescope, flying at altitudes as high as 13.7 km (45,000 ft) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Data Reduction and Early Science Calibration for FORCAST, A Mid-Infrared Camera for SOFIA

TL;DR: In this article, the photometric calibration of FORCAST is described, which involves some subtleties in correction for array artifacts and uncertainties due to the airborne environment, and is able to achieve approximately 20% uncertainty in the calibration.
