The design and safety features of the IRIS reactor
Mario D. Carelli,L. E. Conway,L. Oriani,Bojan Petrovic,Carlo Lombardi,Marco Enrico Ricotti,Antonio Carlos de Oliveira Barroso,J.M. Collado,L. Cinotti,N. E. Todreas,Davor Grgić,M. M. Moraes,R.D. Boroughs,Hisashi Ninokata,D. T. Ingersoll,Francesco Oriolo +15 more
TL;DR: The International Reactor Innovative and Secure (IRIS) as discussed by the authors is an integral, modular, medium size (335 MWe) PWR, which has been under development since the turn of the century by an international consortium led by Westinghouse and including over 20 organizations from nine countries.

Integral pwr with diverse emergency cooling and method of operating same
TL;DR: In this paper, a PWR with an integral reactor pressure vessel incorporating the steam generators and housed in a small high pressure containment vessel, is provided by circulating cooling water through the steam generator and heat exchangers in an external tank to cool the reactor vessel at a rate sufficient to lower the pressure in the vessel below that in containment.

Feasibility Study of Supercritical Light Water Cooled Reactors for Electric Power Production
Philip E. MacDonald,Jacopo Buongiorno,James W. Sterbentz,Cliff Bybee Davis,Robert Witt,Gary S. Was,J. McKinley,S. Teysseyre,L. Oriani,Vefa N. Kucukboyaci,Lawrence E. Conway,N. Jonsson: Bin Liu +11 more
TL;DR: The supercritical water reactor (SCWR) has been the object of interest throughout the nuclear Generation IV community because of its high potential: a simple, direct cycle, compact configuration; elimination of many traditional LWR components; operation at coolant temperatures much higher than traditional LOWRs and thus high thermal efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SPES3 Experimental Facility Design for the IRIS Reactor Simulation
Mario D. Carelli,Lawrence E. Conway,Milorad B. Dzodzo,Andrea Maioli,L. Oriani,Gary D. Storrick,Bojan Petrovic,A. Achilli,G. Cattadori,C. Congiu,R. Ferri,Marco Enrico Ricotti,Davide Papini,F. Bianchi,Paride Meloni,S. Monti,Fabio Berra,Davor Grgić,Graydon L. Yoder,Alessandro Alemberti +19 more
TL;DR: The SPES3 facility as discussed by the authors is an integral test facility for the IRIS project, with a 1 : 100 volume scale, full elevation, and prototypical thermal-hydraulic conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Iris small break loca phenomena identification and ranking table (PIRT)
TL;DR: The International Reactor Innovative and Secure (IRIS) is a modular pressurized water reactor with an integral configuration (all primary system components, internals, pumps, steam generators, pressurizer, and control rod drive mechanisms are inside the reactor vessel) as discussed by the authors.
