Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron VOC subvariants BA.1 and BA.2: Evidence from Danish Households
Frederik Plesner Lyngse,Carsten Kirkeby,Matthew J. Denwood,Lars E. Christiansen,Kåre Mølbak,Camilla Holten Møller,Robert Skov,T. Krause,Morten Rasmussen,Raphael N. Sieber,Thor Bech Johannesen,Troels Lillebaek,Jannik Fonager,Anna S. Fomsgaard,Frederik Trier Møller,Marc Stegger,Maria Overvad,Kelly Spiess,Lhm Mortensen +18 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that Omicron BA.2 is inherently substantially more transmissible than BA.1, and that it also possesses immune-evasive properties that further reduce the protective effect of vaccination against infection, but do not increase its transmissibility from vaccinated individuals with breakthrough infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant of concern subvariants BA.1 and BA.2 in Denmark
Frederik Plesner Lyngse,Carsten Kirkeby,Matthew J. Denwood,Lars E. Christiansen,Kåre Mølbak,Camilla Holten Møller,Robert Skov,Tyra Grove Krause,Morten Rasmussen,Raphael N. Sieber,Thor Bech Johannesen,Troels Lillebaek,Jannik Fonager,Anders Fomsgaard,Frederik Trier Møller,Marc Stegger,Maria Overvad,Katja Spiess,Laust Hvas Mortensen +18 more
TL;DR: In this article , the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants BA.1 and BA.2 within households were estimated using nationwide Danish data.

Occurrence and significance of Omicron BA.1 infection followed by BA.2 reinfection
Marc Stegger,Sofie Marie Edslev,Raphael N. Sieber,Anna Cäcilia Ingham,Kim Lee Ng,Manjuan Tang,Soren Alexandersen,Jannik Fonager,Rebecca Legarth,Magdalena Utko,Bartlomiej Wilkowski,Vithiagaran Gunalan,Marc Bennedbæk,Jonas Byberg-Grauholm,Camilla Holten Møller,Lars E. Christiansen,Christina Wiid Svarrer,Kirsten M. Ellegaard,Sharmin Baig,Thor Bech Johannesen,Laura Espenhain,Robert Skov,Arieh Cohen,Nicolai B. Larsen,Karina Meden Sørensen,Erik D. White,Troels Lillebaek,Henrik Ullum,Tyra Grove Krause,Anders Fomsgaard,Steen Ethelberg,Morten Rasmussen +31 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that Omicron BA.2 reinfections do occur shortly after BA.1 infections but are rare, mostly in young unvaccinated individuals with mild disease not resulting in hospitalization or death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Household transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in Denmark
Frederik Plesner Lyngse,Laust Hvas Mortensen,Matthew J. Denwood,Lars E. Christiansen,Camilla Holten Møller,Robert Skov,Katja Spiess,Anders Fomsgaard,Ria Lassaunière,Morten Rasmussen,Marc Stegger,Claus Nielsen,Raphael N. Sieber,Arieh Cohen,Frederik Trier Møller,Maria Overvad,Kåre Mølbak,Tyra Grove Krause,Carsten Kirkeby +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant overtook the previously dominant Delta variant, but the extent to which this transition was driven by immune evasion or a change in the inherent transmissibility is currently unclear.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of reinfection, vaccine protection, and severity of infection with the BA.5 omicron subvariant: a nation-wide population-based study in Denmark
Christian Holm Hansen,N.U. Friis,Peter Bayer,Marc Stegger,Jannik Fonager,Anders Fomsgaard,Mie Agermose Gram,Lars E. Christiansen,Steen Ethelberg,Rebecca Legarth,Tyra Grove Krause,Henrik Ullum,Palle Valentiner-Branth +12 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that a previous omicron infection in triple-vaccinated individuals provides high amounts of protection against BA.5 and BA.2 infections, which are important to assess the public health impact associated with its rapid global spread despite vaccination.
