Nucleic acid-based approaches to investigate microbial-related cheese quality defects
Daniel J. O'Sullivan,Linda Giblin,Paul L.H. McSweeney,Jeremiah J. Sheehan,Paul D. Cotter,Paul D. Cotter +5 more
TL;DR: The DNA-based methods that are available to detect/quantify spoilage bacteria, and relevant metabolic pathways in cheeses are reviewed and it is highlighted how these strategies can be employed to improve cheese quality and reduce the associated economic burden on cheese processors.
Journal ArticleDOI
A mutation in the transmembrane/luminal domain of the ryanodine receptor is associated with abnormal Ca2+ release channel function and severe central core disease.
Patrick J. Lynch,Jiefei Tong,M. Lehane,Alejandro Mallet,Linda Giblin,James J. A. Heffron,Pat Vaughan,Gildardo Zafra,David H. MacLennan,Tommie V. McCarthy +9 more
TL;DR: Comparison with two other coexpressed mutant/normal channels suggests that the I4898T mutation produces one of the most abnormal RyR1 channels yet investigated, and this level of abnormality is reflected in the severe and penetrant phenotype of affected central core disease individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of Novel Mutations in the Ryanodine-Receptor Gene (RYR1) in Malignant Hyperthermia: Genotype-Phenotype Correlation
Bernadette M. Manning,Kathleen A. Quane,Ording H,Albert Urwyler,Vincenzo Tegazzin,M. Lehane,John O'Halloran,E. Hartung,Linda Giblin,Patrick J. Lynch,Pat Vaughan,K. Censier,Diana Bendixen,Giacomo P. Comi,L. Heytens,Koen Monsieurs,Tore Fagerlund,Werner Wolz,James J. A. Heffron,Clemens R. Müller,Tommie V. McCarthy +20 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, the data suggest a link between the caffeine threshold and tension values and the MH/CCD phenotype, and indicates that assessment of recombinant individuals on the basis of caffeine response is justified, whereas assessment on the based of halothane response may be problematic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bovine β-lactoglobulin/fatty acid complexes: binding, structural, and biological properties.
Solène Le Maux,Solène Le Maux,Solène Le Maux,Saïd Bouhallab,Saïd Bouhallab,Linda Giblin,André Brodkorb,Thomas Croguennec,Thomas Croguennec +8 more
TL;DR: The structure-function relationships are reviewed in the light of the structural state of the protein (native versus non-native aggregated proteins), and the binding properties of native β-lg (localization of binding sites, stoichiometry, and affinity) and some biological properties of the complexes are addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predominance of a bacteriocin-producing Lactobacillus salivarius component of a five-strain probiotic in the porcine ileum and effects on host immune phenotype
Maria Walsh,Gillian E. Gardiner,Orla M. Hart,Peadar G. Lawlor,Mairead Daly,Brendan Lynch,Brian T Richert,Scott Radcliffe,Linda Giblin,Colin Hill,Gerald F. Fitzgerald,Catherine Stanton,Paul Ross +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the relative predominance of each of five probiotic strains was investigated in the ileum of weaned pigs, compared with that in feces, when administered in combination at c. 5 x 10(9) CFU day(-1) for 28 days.
