Journal ArticleDOI

An increase in the 12 C + 12 C fusion rate from resonances at astrophysical energies

TL;DR: The rate of carbon burning—12C + 12C fusion—in stars is boosted by resonant behaviour at astrophysical energies, which may have implications such as lowering the temperatures and densities and decreasing the superburst ignition depth in accreting neutron stars to reconcile observations with theoretical models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement and calculation of characteristic prompt gamma ray spectra emitted during proton irradiation.

TL;DR: From the measured spectra it was shown that it is possible to distinguish the characteristic emission lines from the major elemental constituent atoms in the irradiated phantoms during delivery of proton doses similar to those delivered during patient treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Asymptotic normalization coefficients for 10 B → 9 Be + p

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used elastic scattering data to determine the optical model parameters for the reactions at an incident energy of 100 MeV, which were then used in distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculations to predict the cross sections of the reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tests of transfer reaction determinations of astrophysical S factors

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used transfer reactions to determine asymptotic normalization coefficients for transitions to the ground and first excited states of a single photon at astrophysical energies.
