Journal ArticleDOI

The evolution of food preferences in Coccinellidae

TL;DR: The findings suggest that polyphagy served as an evolutionary stepping stone for primarily predaceous groups to adopt new feeding habits and therefore requires revision of the Coccinellidae classification system.
Book ChapterDOI

Evolutionary Determinants of Host and Vector Manipulation by Plant Viruses.

TL;DR: Available literature is synthesized to identify patterns in virus effects among pathogens with shared transmission mechanisms and the results are discussed in the context of molecular and environmental constraints on virus evolution, limitations of existing studies, and prospects for future research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pathogen effects on vegetative and floral odours mediate vector attraction and host exposure in a complex pathosystem.

TL;DR: It is reported that the beetle-transmitted bacterial pathogen Erwinia tracheiphila alters the foliar and floral volatile emissions of its host (wild gourd, Cucurbita pepo ssp. texana) in ways that enhance both vector recruitment to infected plants and subsequent dispersal to healthy plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of citizen science in addressing grand challenges in food and agriculture research.

TL;DR: It is argued there is no better time to foster greater collaboration between these fields given the trend of shrinking Extension programmes, the increasing need to apply innovative solutions to address rising demands on agricultural systems, and the exponential growth of the field of citizen science.
